Run For Rangers - an epic 100 km run through Babanango Game Reserve

We are delighted to bring you the third annual Run for Rangers event – taking place in Babanango Game Reserve! Run for Rangers is a unique event which offers participants a fully immersive experience in the exhilarating 20,000 HA wildlife reserve. The motivation behind the event came from Harry Bailey, then a young Grade 12 Hilton College learner, with a passion for wildlife and a desire to champion the often forgotten, but true heroes – our rangers. The beneficiaries of the funds; Project Rhino, powered by the Sport for Lives movement, will use the funding to support these dedicated individuals, who are at the forefront of the battle against poaching and other threats to wildlife. Rangers are also the guardians of habitat conservation, conduct ecological research, and lead community outreach initiatives – to name a few.

The 2022 and 2023 Run for Rangers raised more than R150,000 each to support rangers in all respects and the 2024 edition promises to be just as exciting and rewarding. Save the date for the weekend of 26 – 29 July 2024 and join us in making a difference for our Rangers!

Oceans 8 Charity Swim

SA’s first and only warm water ocean challenge, exclusively for charity!

How far would you go for a cause you are passionate about? Would you walk a mile? Would you swim a mile? Would you swim eight!?

Project Rhino is proud to be a founding charity of Oceans 8 Charity Swim- the first warm water ocean challenge of its kind in South Africa, and the only swimming event run (swam) entirely for charity.

The 2023 event took place in Durban over the weekend of 16 June and raised an incredible R889,000 for 14 different charities!

We could not be prouder and more grateful to our dedicated swimmers and ambassadors, swimming an incredible 8 miles over two days, whilst helping to raise critical funding and awareness for the cause.

We’re looking for Project Rhino Champions to take on the challenge next year!

Wildlife Ranger Challenge

In September, ranger teams across Africa unite for the  #WildlifeRangerChallenge, a race with one goal: to raise money to support the men and women on the front line of Africa’s protected areas. Ranger teams take on a series of mental and physical challenges, preparing for the main event – running 21 km over varied terrain, whilst carrying their usual equipment and 22 kg backpacks.

Project Rhino is honoured to have been a part of this amazing effort for four years running. Our K9-Unit joined almost 100 Ranger Teams from 16 African countries raising money and awareness of the importance of the role of rangers in protecting wildlife, habitats, communities and our planet.

Event Date in September 2024 TBC soon.

We are calling on you to #standwithrangers and support this incredible initiative. Run alongside our ranger teams  by walking or running 5, 10 or 21 km wherever you are. The Scheinberg Relief Fund, the founding donor of the WRC, has generously committed $1 million in matched funds in support of rangers. That means every donation is amplified.

Support or sign-up today at WildlifeRangerChallenge.org.

Civvies Day for Rhino

September is World Rhino Month, as well as South African Heritage Month. We urge the youth of South Africa to play their part in conserving our wildlife and preserving our national heritage.

We invite all schools in KZN to select one day in September to have a “Civvies Day for Rhino” where all learners pay R10 to wear civvies to school.

Email info@projectrhinokzn.org to register your school.

uBhejane Xtreme Mountain Bike Challenge

The event includes four distances, ranging from 130 km to 350 km.  uBhejane X is a registered NPO and the race is a fundraiser for rhino conservation activities of Project Rhino and Helping Rhinos.
