Ranger Training & Reserve Support

Project Purpose

Empowering rangers and strengthening reserve security through specialist training, essential equipment, and targeted support. By improving skills, boosting morale, and providing the tools needed to stay one step ahead of poachers, Project Rhino ensures that frontline defenders and reserves are equipped to protect endangered wildlife and safeguard our natural heritage.

Why Rangers Need Our Support

Being a ranger is not just a job — it’s a calling. But it comes with immense challenges:

  • Life-threatening risks: Facing heavily armed poachers and dangerous wildlife.
  • Harsh working conditions: Enduring extreme weather and unforgiving terrain.
  • Sacrifice: Spending weeks away from their families while guarding protected areas.
  • Under-resourced teams: Many operate without adequate gear, vehicles, or technology.

Hundreds of rangers are injured or killed in the line of duty each year. Despite these challenges, they remain deeply committed to safeguarding our natural heritage — but they cannot do it alone.

What We Do

Field rangers and anti-poaching teams are the first line of defence and need on-going support to maintain morale and improve their skills & abilities in the face of heavily armed poaching gangs. Project Rhino targets 100 rangers per annum by delivering 1) formal accredited skills training and 2) in-field mentorship.

We also provide equipment and resources to private, community-owned and state game reserves, so that they are able to improve intra-reserve communications and respond to poaching incidents in an integrated manner.
